Ma nulla, le insistenze continuarono facendomi perdere gli scatti migliori. Innervosito da tanta ignoranza, ho preferito andarmene per evitare di gettare un corpo estraneo nelle acque del Brian.

È stato l’unico vero professionista dell’immagine visto durante l’intera giornata di gara: che tristezza! Bucintoro, questo potete leggere sulla sua maglietta, oggi solo il nome di un circolo di canotaggio. Ma Bucintoro è stato molto di più, un nome ancora rimpianto da molti veri veneziani: antico simbolo della Serenissima venne incendiato per ordine di un individuo definito nella sceneggiatura di un film come “quel maiale francese”.

I regret this also because day two was richer in catches than day one. Congratulations to the world champions of the Serb team Senta Maros: Zsolt Palfi, Milan Selkulic, Zsolt Beviz, Arnold Santo and Zoran Dugajlic.

Per motivi di lavoro non ho potuto essere presente alla seconda giornata di gara, quindi non troverete il relativo articolo e le foto della premiazione sotto la pioggia. Me ne rammarico anche perché gara due è stata più ricca di catture. Sergii Burdak e Rui Coimbra seguono con lo sguardo le restanti operazioni di pesatura nella zona D, ma stanno anche discutendo di un’altra cosa: ciò che tengono in mano sono le aste dei rispettivi ombrelloni. Quello di Rui, in lega leggera, non ha resistito alle sollecitazioni del vento, mentre l’asta di Sergii non ha avuto problemi. Il motivo? Sia chimico che fisico. Quello del portoghese era semplice metallo e molto sottile, l’altro era di titanio e di sezione molto spessa con solo un piccolo foro centrale. Sergii ha provato a piegarlo con decisione facendo leva sul ginocchio, ma è rimasto perfettamente dritto. Non so che vento spiri in Ucraina, ma dubito che una simile soluzione possa essere economicamente competitiva.

Tomorrow will be the last match of Italic championship along the banks of Ostellato canal. I’m sure you remember what happened there almost two months ago… Sunday 4 September I finished my work at 5 am, came home 20 minutes later, took a shower and at 6 o’clock drove to canal Ostellato, near the city of Ferrara. I was dead tired and very sleepy, so I had to stop a couple of times along the way. I arrived at Ostellato oasis at 9:10, too late to take photos during early stages of the second day match preparation. Too much time lost during the trip, I thought, but I couldn’t drive any longer or faster than I did. Well, I felt a like a dead man walking up and down the match field, so please understand that I couldn’t pay attention to the whole competition as I would like… I mean, not on all 5 areas because the first two were too far from the others, so I stayed on sectors C, D and E. The photographer you see in this picture seems to rest because tired; well, at the moment I shot him… I was full on dead!

Domani si disputerà l’ultima gara del campionato italiano sul canale di Ostellato. Sono certo che vi ricordate cosa accadde quasi due mesi fa lungo quelle sponde… Domenica 4 settembre finii di lavorare alle 5 del mattino, arrivaii a casa 20 minuti più tardi, mi feci una doccia e alle 6 presi l’auto per recarmi a Ostellato, vicino alla città di Ferrara. Ero stanco morto e molto assonnato, tanto da obbligarmi a un paio di fermate lungo il percorso. Giunsi all’oasi di Ostellato poco dopo le 9, troppo tardi per scattare foto durante le fasi di preparazione alla gara del secondo giorno. Tutto a causa del tempo perso durante il viaggio, pensai, ma non potevo guidare senza fermarmi. Quel giorno ero un cadavere che camminava su e giù lungo il campo di gara, e mi fu subito chiaro che non potevo seguire l’intera competizione… intendo tutte e 5 le zone, anche perché le prime due erano troppo distanziate dalle altre, così rimasi ad aggirarmi solo sulla C, la D e la E. Il fotografo che vedete in questa foto sembra riposarsi perché stanco, ebbene, ricordo che nel momento in cui lo ripresi io ero letteralmente morto!

Will Raison in action. A lot of bad luck for him: during match one he captured 4 wels catfish around 1-2 kilos each, a non-regulatory fish. Well, on these days an international committee has decided to exclude this animal, leading justification being the safety of the competitors. My personal opinion is that a fish is… a fish, no matter how large it can be. I guess, they feared someone might perhaps give himself into catfishing with hard tackle… not something Orthodox for a world matchfishing championship. The bad quality of this picture is due to a low-cost film slide I used into my second body camera, taken with a low-cost lens and scanned with a low-cost flatbed-scanner. Yeah, all in my life is low-cost.

Will Raison in azione. Molta sfortuna per lui: durante gara uno ha catturato 4 siluri di circa 1-2 chili, pesci non regolamentari. Il fatto è che in quei giorni un comitato internazionale aveva decretato di escludere questo animale, adducendo come motivo la sicurezza degli atleti. La mia personale opinione è che un pesce è sempre un pesce, non importa quanto grosso possa essere. Mi è più facile ritenere che alla base di quella decisione vi fosse il timore che qualcuno potesse darsi al catfishing con attrezzature non degne di un campionato del mondo di pesca al colpo.

It was 4:30 pm and I had to start workin again at 7 pm; the time was over, I couldn’t waste any more minute, so grabbed my cameras and drove back to Venice.
