Whitout fish under the roubaisienne, under the match rod line and near the bank too, Umberto will catch only 1620 grams obtaining the 8^th position, far behind Falsini who finished 4^th with 4970. In Saturday’s match the 2001 individual world champion won his sector with over 5 kilos, so it is clear that today’s result only depended on the peg received by draw. And this bad peg will be crucial for his team final result.

Alla sua sinistra Jacopo Falsini sta catturando regolarmente così come gli altri concorrenti. Senza pesce sotto la roubaisienne, sulla distanza dell’inglese e pure vicino alla sponda, Umberto riuscirà a portare al peso solo 1620 grammi per un ottavo di settore, molto dietro a Falsini che finirà quarto con 4970. Considerando che nella gara di sabato il campione del mondo individuale 2001 aveva vinto il suo settore con oltre 5 chili, appare evidente che il risultato odierno è dipeso dal picchetto ricevuto il sorte; lo sarà al punto da determinare il risultato finale della sua squadra.

Un buon risultato state certamente pensando, se non fosse che stava gareggiando nello stesso settore di Fini. Proprio così, Gabba ha perso il confronto diretto contro il garista dell’Oltrarno.

Prandi’s haul. He obtained 2^nd in his section with 5880 grams, beaten by Franco Zucchi (you can see Franco behind him). A good result you may think again, but not really: the fact is that he fished on peg number 1 on the first sector, so into a terminal position. With nobody on your right, you’ve got a great advantage and you should always win, but this time Zucchi’s great crucians have changed the cards on the table. Fortunately for him Oltrarno angler Premoli was only fourth.

Questo significa che quando non c’è nessuno che pesca alla tua destra, hai un grande vantaggio e dovresti vincere sempre; così non è stato a causa degli enormi carassi di Zucchi. Fortunatamente per lui, nel suo settore Premoli è giunto solo quarto.

Team Lenza Emiliana on the second step of the podium: expressions look now more serene for Ferruccio Gabba, Giuliano Prandi, Simone Carraro and Umberto Ballabeni. But what’s wrong during these last two competition days? I wrote into my previus article that here on the Ostellato banks arrived the best 10 Italic teams, including two by Oltrarno. Well, vox populi (voice on the street has it that) told me that members of Oltrarno second team wouldn’t catch “seriously” in at least three cases to avoid damaging their “A Team”. If you take a look at the final classification, you can see that team B arrived 10^th… it belongs to the winner’s clan and yet it ended up last!? Not a good thing, I agree. Was it decisive? Yes, it was. Well, this isn’t the first time that certain facts happen and my personal opinion is very simple: regulation is God’s word and Oltrarno’s title is sacred. Said this, failing at fair play goes beyond any regulation and I’m sure you agree with me, but rules are clear and allow little team games like those… Something like this happens in Formula 1 races, in cycling races and during many other team sports; so as you can understand Italian jobs are more common than you think (a lot of work for Mike Rowe!). But seriously, to avoid the trouble and all the controversy derived (and I assure you that there were some), the only way is to change the regulations: one team for each clan during final matches. It’s a very simple thing, I know, but you have to remember I’m writing from a certain country…

La squadra della Lenza Emiliana sul secondo gradino del podio: le espressioni sembrano ora più serene per Ferruccio Gabba, Giuliano Prandi, Simone Carraro e Umberto Ballabeni. Ma allora, cosa è accaduto durante queste due giornate di gara? Ho avuto modo di riportare nei precedenti articoli come qui ad Ostellato siano giunte le 10 migliori compagini, incluse due squadre dell’Oltrarno. Secondo parecchia gente i componenti della loro seconda squadra non avrebbero gareggiato seriamente in almeno tre casi clamorosi, evitando così di danneggiare il top team. Leggendo la classifica a squadre noterete che in effetti la squadra B si è posizionata all’ultimo posto, questo pur appartenendo alla stessa società del team vincitore. È stato un fattore decisivo? La risposta è sì. Non è la prima volta che vengono adottate simili strategie, diciamo pure che in certe occasioni diventano la prassi e la mia opinione a tal proposito è molto semplice: il regolamento è parola di Dio e il titolo dell’Oltrarno è cosa sacra. Detto questo, la prima vittima delle sacre parole è stato il fair play, e questo a prescindere dal fatto che le regole permettano o meno giochi di quadra, o per meglio dire, di società. Ci si può consolare: accade nella pesca sportiva ciò che normalmente si vede sui circuiti di Formula 1, nelle gare di ciclismo e in molti altri tipi di sport di squadra. Sono strategie molto più comuni di quanto si pensi. Per appianare le controversie che inevitabilmente sorgono in simili circostanze (e vi assicuro che ce ne sono state), l’unica soluzione è quella di cambiare il regolamento: solo un team per ogni società nella fase finale. Una cosa apparentemente semplice.
