Day two at the World Pairs Championship. Let’s see some pictures sent to me by Steve Lockett. Crom Estate, County Fermanagh, a beautiful backdrop for the competition.

Ryan Kersley in action with a feeder rod (section 3A, 16.750 kg for him). He had a nice feeder day at Turfhouse where most fished the pole to hand for hybrids and small skimmers.

Ray Thompson swings a hybrid at Killadeas (section 3B, 27.200 kg).

Tommy Pickering swings a roach.

Crom River scenic.

Tim Nash of Browning Hotrods nets a hybrid.

Tim Nash with a feeder caught hybrid. He was drawn on peg 4 at Killadeas, the peg that Frances McGoldrick won during day 1 with 30.640 kg.

Hybrids on bunches of red maggot at 25 meters helped him to 32.110 kg, not enough to win: he was beaten by Paul Keeley with 32.790 kg.

Bodyguards for a very special angler.

Four times individual Senior Men’s World Champion in netting action. Not a good weight yesterday at 2A section with 3.120 kg. Peg 14 in day two on the river section (3A) at Crom, where had seen plenty of 20 kg weights returned.

Casting 35 metres out with his Browning Window Feeder, Bob put 23.410 kg of quality hybrids and small roaches in the keepnet.

A nice hybrid, but he found small roach annoying. He said: “Belive it or not, the roach are a pain. I need to cut out the cloud and then the feeder gets down and a hybrid has it. I’m having to tease some on my twitching the feeder, but it’s worth doing for the bigger stamp.”

Bob’s weight (23.410 kg) was only good enough for 8^th in his section, showing the standard of sport that Crom has been giving.

Dean Barlow’s catch, winner of the section 3A (peg 10, the same section of Bob Nudd) with 32.430 kg.

A nice roach and hybrid for Dean.

Day 2: Lee Addy and Paul Keeley are the best pair with a total of 86.440 kg, and Rod Scott is the leader of the Daiwa Cup with 52.460 kg. Scott is also the top angler of the second day with a weigh of 38.970 kg in the section 5A.

I started getting the photos of Steve Lockett related to the 2013 Lakelands and Inland Waterways World Pairs Angling Championship. What you see in this article are related to the weekend and the first day of competition. Let’s see them.

Ho iniziato a ricevere da Steve Lockett le immagini relative al 2013 Lakelands and Inland Waterways World Pairs Angling Championship. Quelle che vedete in questo articolo sono relative al weekend e al primo giorno di gara. Vediamole.

Event sponsors and ambassadors: Norma Herron, Bob Nudd, Kevin Locke (organizer), Steve Ringer and Colm Breheny.

Sunday evening, 8^thSeptember: the draw held in the Standing Stone Hotel in Ballinamore with a lot of new faces over than last year’s event. From this moment the going gets tough

The road signs are very clear: impossible to fail

Leitrim. Mud Flats at Carrick-on-Shannon.

Philip Jackson (winner of the 2012 pairs edition with Cathal Hughes) casts for Shannon skimmers near the marina; he will win his section with 9.400 grams.

Jacko’s maggots: a little secret.

Rudiger Hansen nets a hybrid.

Simon Young of talkangling was end peg on A section. He got Shannon hybrids late on a short feeder line.

Mr Hughes with a nice hybrid. Well, when I saw this picture for the first time I thought: Alan Scottorne! You have to admit: there is an undeniable similarity.

The other half of the 2012 winner pair won his section with a display of perfect feeder fishing (16.300 kg). His strategy: bunches of red maggots on the hook and a very dark groundbait mix with just a few casters and a pinch of chopped worms added.

Cathal shows to Colm Breheney how hold a fish.

Ron Van De Voort is playing a nice bream

Ron with the classic Shannon breams, dark backed and with a love for worms. “I like to catch them” said the olandese, “so today was very nice for me. My 9 kg net was second in the section, so it was very close to winning but Philip beat me by 500 grams.” Ron’s favourite venue is Garadice, where he’ll be on the last day.

End of day one. 2012 Pairs Champion Cathal Hughes and Philip Jackson, with more than 26 kg in the bag, are not the lead yet. The best pair today: Frances McGoldrick and Dave Brettell with 46.540 kg, and Mr McGoldrick (individual last year’s winner) is also the leader of the Daiwa Cup with 30.640 kg.

A few days ago I received a very interesting email from Steve Lockett, who proposed me to publish a short article about the World Pairs Angling Championship, competitive event in five days that will take place next week in Irish waters. It’s not a difficult text, so I propose it without translation. The photos that accompany the article are partly downloaded from the Web, partly taken from the official website of the organizers (http://www.worldpairsangling.com/) and in part were sent to me by Steve. Good reading!

Buona lettura!

The 2013 World Pairs Angling Championships will get under way on 8^th September with the draw for daily sections. Fishing five days from 9^th to 13^th September. There are still places available.

This event is already one of the richest around, with 30,000 euros guaranteed to be shared amongst the top ten pairs, plus individual tackle prizes from Daiwa. The winners will pick up 16,000 euros and the top three all receive crystal trophies. Last year’s event showcased the fabolous fishing, using a range of styles, on natural venues across Northern Ireland and the Republic.

This year’s event will be staged across the counties of Leitrim, Cavan and Fermanagh, in stunning scenery. Entries cost £170 per pairs, with a generous discount of £30 per pair if the ticket is booked through event travel partner http://www.irelandtravelplus.co.uk/. Individual entries cost an extra £140, giving daily section and county payouts, plus an overall top ten.

The individual champion will pick up the Daiwa Cup, and a share of the £6500 tackle voucher sponsorship from the UK’ top tackle manufacturer. Fishing licenses (needed for Fermanagh county) are provided by the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL). The event organisers will provide each pair with maps and GPS coordinates to the venues.

The event website is at: http://www.worldpairsangling.com/. They have a Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/worldpairs and a Twitter feed at: www.twitter.com/worldpairs.
